Dr George Muirhead was for many years the Duke of Richmond & Gordon’s Commissioner for his entire estate, which stretched from Speybay to Tomintoul and beyond. In the 1920’s, Dr Muirhead lived in some style at Speybank House, Fochabers, with his wife, formerly The Honourable Miss Elizabeth Forbes-Sempel. A kind gentleman, a knowledgeable zoologist and plant breeder, Dr Muirhead was greatly respected throughout the Richmond-Gordon domain.
Dr Muirhead and his wife are interred in Bellie Churchyard.
Dr Muirhead’s grandson, George, was a personal friend of the late Gordon Baxter, founder of ‘The Friends of Bellie Churchyard’. The Muirhead family live in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His daughter, Deb Kellam, and her 3 children, visited in the Summer of 2003 and were delighted to join in the fund-raising sponsored walk in aid of the works being done to enhance the Churchyard and surroundings. They remain great supporters of the work of the Friends.
